Banasura Sagar Dam

Banasura Sagar Dam nestled between the hill ranges of Banasura (part of Western Ghats) is built across the tributary of Kabini River in Wayanad. It is the largest earth dam in India and second largest in Asia. The small Island formations in the dam reservoir covered in thick green foliage with the hill ranges in the background makes it truly breathtaking!




Chembra Peak 


Chembra peak located 8 km south of Kalpetta town, is the highest peak in Wayanad. It is the part of the majestic Western Ghats. You can reach there only by foot from Meppady , a small town near its valley. So naturally Chembra peak is the popular trekking trail in Kerala. One should get permission from the forest authorities before starting out.



Thenmala

Thenmala is also in Kollam district, near Punalur township. The main attraction is the Thenmala Dam, built across the Kallada river. Thenmala was recently converted to a eco-tourism destination  enhancing its already existing nature resources .Its around 171 kms from Kochi.




Ashtamudi Lake 


Its in the Kollam district. Ashtamudi Lake is the second deepest lake in the state, in the first been Vembanad Lake. In malayalam 'Ashtamudi' means 'eight coned '.It got it name for that particular shape it resembled.



Thattekad Bird Sanctuary 


This bird sanctuary is part of  dense tropical evergreen forest. It located at about 58 Km from Kochi city. Thattekad was the first bird sanctuary in Kerala. Famous ornithologist Salim Ali, once described Thattekad Sanctuary as "the richest bird habitat on peninsular india".




Vazhachal Falls


The watter fall is very near to Athirappily waterfalls, one of the most popular waterfalls in Kerala.Vazhachal is just a 5 Km drive from  later. Both these waterfalls is on Chalakkudy River flowing through Thrissur district , Kerala.




Silent Valley National Park 

This is perhaps one of the last unexplored part of tropical evergreen forest in India. Silent Valley situated in Nilagiri hills , Palakkad. This site is a part of the Western Ghat regions under consideration for UNESCO world heritage site .




Nelliampathi


Cradled in the midst of Western Ghats, Nelliampathi is locally nick named as "Poor Man's Ooty " as it closely resembles Ooty (Ootacamund) , one of the most hill stations in South India. The high altitude , lush green tea gardens over the rolling hillsides and surrounding tropical forest makes it truly breathtaking .




Cherai Beach 


Cherai Beach is at the north western end of Vypin Island, in Eranakulam district (Cochin). The way to Cherai Beach  is dotted with many beautiful lagoons, these lagoons are now used large scale organic prawn and fish cultivation. Coconut trees and close lying paddy fields adds to it charm !




Thiruvallam 

Thiruvallam backwaters is located at about 206 Kms from Kochi. This backwater stretch is actually a confluence of two beautiful rivers - Killi and Karamana. Thiruvallam is famous  canoe  rides and related water spot events.



Kuruva Island 


Kuruvdweep is located at about 17 Kms from Mananthavady, which is the nearest town in Wayanad district. This Island is a river delta formation in Kabini river . It is part of the evergreen tropical forest. So naturally, it is nature lovers paradise . One get to see rare species of flora and fauna here!




Muzhappilangad Beach


Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach is the only drive-in beach in Kerala (perhaps india too!) and is the largest in Asia. It situated at about 6 Kms from Thalassery town and 15 Kms from Kannur town. You can have a 5 Km ride splashing through the sea waves .




Pookot Lake 


It is located near Kalpetta, Wayanad district. It is a picturesque freshwater lake flanked by forest on all sides. The sight of the blue water lilies spread out on the lake make the visit worth while. Boating facility is available but no one is allowed to pluck the blue lilies.




Ponmudi


Ponmudi or the Golden Peak, Is the one of the main hill station in Trivandrum district.It is at an altitude of 1100m above sea level. It is the part of the Western Ghats hill ranges. The very narrow roads with some 22 hairpin curves make the journey to the place quite adventuresome.But the scenery along the way .. and the top view of the green valley below make it all worth while.
