Ponthan Mada (1994)

Ponthan Mada is a 1994 Malayalam movie written and directed by T.V Chandran and starred Mammootty and Naseeruddin Shah in leading roles. Ponthan Mada is based on two short stories, Ponthan Mada and Sheema Thampuran by C V Sreeraman. Set in the 1940's British, India, the film about the extraordinary, uncanny, and touching bonding of the so- called low-caste Ponthan Mada (Mammootty) with his colonial landlord Sheema Thampuran (Naseeruddin Shah), who was expelled to British India from England during his youth for supporting the Irish Republican Army. Crossing the class boundaries, the two communicate through the Thampuran's window with Mada hanging a palm tree . The film about the friendship between Mada and Sheema Thampuran that low class and high class.

Laboni Sarkar, Janardhanan, Maniyan Pilla Raju, Zeenath and Mavelikkara Ponnamma had done in supporting roles. The music was composed by Johnson and cinematography by Venu. The movie won three National Film Award for Best Director,  Music Director and Best Actor (Mammootty) in the year 1994.
